From Shoutout to Shade: Matt Proxy Mocks CORTIS and Kpop

It all started on July 5 when Martin from CORTIS posted on Weverse. He shared a playlist of songs he was currently listening to with his fans, which included the track “knots” by Matt Proxy.

After Martin’s post got so much attention, the same day Matt Proxy posted a shout-out on his Instagram Story that just said, ‘Hit me up.’ Proxy quickly changed his mind after listening to the CORTIS track ‘GO!’. He posted on his social media: “Never mind. This is kind of ass. I’m good.”

After getting a lot of hate from CORTIS fans, Proxy didn’t back down. Instead, he criticized the entire K-pop industry. On July 6, he said, “I don’t care about songs made in a lab by 50 people; that’s never been me. He even wrote in his comment section that ‘even when Ye do it. It be ass , it ruins the essence of ideas. Songs made to have 500M streams b da worst.’

Proxy also accused the K-pop industry of using Black art and music like a ‘costume. He believes the K-pop industry is just profiting from Black music genres like hip-hop and R&B, using government money to turn them into mainstream pop.

To mock them further, he posted in his Instagram story that “I mog CORTIS” and “the K pop industry is literally ah government funded industry to rip off (black) western art.” “Even the artists have to go through gruel expectations they cannot keep up with.” “Each one of their songs are made by 75 people designed to reach the top like a MrBeast video.”

Why He Used Stray Kids Members’ Photo on His Profile

Matt Proxy used controversial photos of Stray Kids members Hyunjin and Bang Chan to make fun of the K-pop industry. He wants to criticize what he sees as K-pop companies disrespectfully copying Black culture and hip-hop styles. First, he used a picture of Hyunjin styled with a large lip prop and an afro wig on his social media profile. Then he used a photo of Bangchan wearing cornrows. He is keeping his profile picture as a way to continue mocking the industry.

Fans Reaction on Social Media

Many fans, including a lot of K-pop supporters, see him as a bully and a hypocrite. They argue that because he uses racist slurs and attacks specific artists instead of focusing on bigger problems in the music industry, he ruins his own point. To them, it looks like he doesn’t actually care about social issues—he just wants attention and clout.
