Lisa is Receiving Criticism for the Lack of Innovation in World Cup Song

Lisa’s new song for FIFA is already dividing fans, and this debate started before the full track was even released.

On May 20, FIFA unveiled the first teaser for “Goals,” the official 2026 World Cup anthem featuring BLACKPINK’s Lisa, Brazilian star Anitta, and Nigerian artist Rema. Just hours after the preview dropped, short clips of Lisa’s World Cup song went viral on social media and fan communities.

The teaser blends music styles into a cross-continental mix of K-pop, Brazilian funk, and Afrobeats. Lisa opens with glossy rap lines like, “My body / my fit / my friends / my whip ” before Anitta brings in Spanish and Portuguese. Rema finishes the song with a more chant driven, stadium style section.

Why Fans Are Hating ‘Goals’

However, people had very mixed feelings about Lisa’s song, “Goals.” A wave of posts called the song clips unoriginal, boring, and messy. Some other commenters went further and said it sounded “AI-made,” and it is not about unity or football. The main problem with the 2026 World Cup anthem is pretty clear: many listeners do not think the production feels big enough, catchy enough, or memorable enough for a World Cup anthem.

The comparison has become one of the biggest parts of the conversation. For most of the people, past World Cup songs had huge, instantly catchy choruses and lyrics. While this song does not have such good choreography, and the lyrics also only focus on her.

However, fans are defending the song strongly. Their argument is simple: it is too early to judge a massive global anthem based on just a few seconds. Lisa said joining the official FIFA World Cup album was an honor and added that music “always unites people across the world.” While Anitta and Rema also emphasized the meaning of bringing artists from three continents together, according to their official statements. Some also said that it is not her fault; she was given the lyrics to sing.
