K-Pop’s 7-Year Curse: CIX Officially Disbands as Contracts Expire

The end of CIX is now official. On April 29, C9 Entertainment announced that the group would conclude activities as member contracts expire. The news lands just before CIX’s seventh anniversary, giving the group’s story an especially bittersweet finish.

“After seven years together, CIX will be going their separate ways,” the agency said, adding that both the members and the company feel “a profound sense of sorrow” over the decision.

C9 Entertainment Official Statement
  • 2024: Bae Jinyoung left CIX, with the agency citing health concerns and a focus on his individual career. That immediately sparked worries about the team’s future.
  • April 30, 2026: BX and Seunghun’s contracts expired, and neither renewed with C9 Entertainment.
  • May 11, 2026: Yonghee began his mandatory military service after voluntarily applying for enlistment. His contract also ended that day.
  • May 31, 2026: Hyunsuk’s contract is set to end, marking the final member departure and closing out the group’s lineup under C9.

In its official statement, C9 said it had spent months discussing ways to continue team promotions. But with overlapping contract expirations and Yonghee’s enlistment, those plans ultimately fell apart.

Social media is filled with fan art and thank-you messages. For many, the heartbreak isn’t just about the music stopping but the loss of a presence that became a part of their daily lives. Still, some fans have openly criticized the timing and management, calling for clearer communication from the agency.
