YG Entertainment has officially announced the debut date for its upcoming boy group. In a new video posted on the company’s official YouTube channel and blog, Yang Hyun-suk confirmed that YG is aiming to debut a new 5-member group in September 2026. He didn’t give any further details of the upcoming group, including its name.
It has been six years since YG Entertainment last introduced a new boy group to the industry, following TREASURE’s debut in 2020. YG’s NEW boy group will be the first boy group in 30 years to debut under YG Entertainment without a survival show or elimination show.
The five-member lineup is the center of attention. By choosing a smaller group with a heavy focus on solo skills and distinct vibes, YG is signaling a return to its roots—favoring raw talent and distinct style over strength in numbers.
YG is preparing a new boy group targeting fall 2026, with a five-member team currently expected for September.
Yang’s ambitious 2026 strategy is packed with major milestones: expanded schedules for BabyMonster and TREASURE, with the launch of a new band, ‘Next Monster,’ and a global tour celebrating 20 years of BIGBANG.
Some are excited to see YG return to a more selective boy group format. But there’s skepticism too; given YG’s track record, public expectations for any new debut have become exceptionally high.
That’s exactly why this debut already feels important for YG Entertainment. If YG sticks to the schedule, September could end up delivering one of the most closely watched rookie launches of 2026.
